On April 4th, 2024 the communications team at Cleveland Metropolitan School District posted the following video of Dr. Warren Morgan, former science teacher, explaining how a solar eclipse works.
At first I was horrified but then I started mocking them and that made me feel better. During the course of my social media mocking, I asked questions of the district on their social media pages: Who edited this? Who uploaded it? How could this get produced by a school district? What are we paying people in CMSD communications?
Eleven days later I submitted my first public records request. One month after that, I had enough public records in my possession to start this blog. On May 12, 2024 I wrote a blog piece called Eclipsegate which reveals that there was an eclipse video script, but the former science teacher went off script.
A year later, I have collected public records and public information from CMSD, Shaker Heights City Schools (I could start another blog called Secretly Shaker), Cleveland Heights-University Heights schools, Columbus City Schools, Atlanta Public Schools, Saginaw Public Schools, Denver Public Schools, and Indianapolis Public Schools. I’ve also been getting public records from the City of Cleveland since Mayor Bibb and Education Chief Michele Pomerantz are driving education policy.
I know so much more than I did before. I feel so much more empowered than before. My suggestion for the proper celebration of April Fourths Day is that you send a public records request. Find out what is really going on in your public schools. Or your city, your state, federal government. They are counting on a public that doesn’t ask questions.
Speaking of questions, Ed and Peggy Gallek finally got to sit down with Dr. Morgan and well, his weakness and insecurity were on full display. Watch it here. Someone on the Publicly Cleveland Conversations Facebook group took an image from the video and edited out all of the background. It reveals so much about his body language and facial expressions when asked to justify his travel spending. It’s also handy for making memes.
Couldn’t do it without you
Thank you all for reading, subscribing, and sharing these things I write. Thank you for sending me tidbits to research. Than you for the coffee meet ups and conversation. Thank you for taking action with the public information I have been able to share. I really do appreciate all of you.
You are amazing. I ran into a Susan Zake, the editor in chief for a news group called Signal Akron at the April 5th rally. You should send some articles to them. signalakron.org
